It was good this morning.
Quentin did injury his knee. He will probably have surgery on his knee Tuesday, and it's about a six-week recovery. Makiri Pugh sprained his ankle. I don't think it will be any time soon for him.
Rambo and Nick Williams, who has been a little banged up, and Andrew Williams. You hope Know is ready – he's been showing good signs. We've got some young guys that are going to have to get reps. With all of our DBs and even our tailbacks and receivers and linebackers – we are working towards getting (the young players) ready to play. There may be a redshirt that works for one of those guys. But right now there is not one of those guys who we are saying: "he's probably not going to go." We are trying to get them all ready to go – we are going to need them.
We don't really need any more injuries at safety. It was a spot where we thought we didn't have a lot of depth, and now we are sitting at two safeties.
I think the true freshmen looked good in full pads. I was impressed. I am impressed with the freshmen. They are in good condition. They are strong. You look at those DBs and the only one that would resemble someone a little skinny is Nick (Williams) and Nick is a very strong and fast kid. He likes contact. I am impressed with those guys. I am impressed with our running backs. They are talented runners, and they are eager learners. They all try to stick their face in there in pass protection. We did a good job of recruiting those skill guys.
I think they all see that (the playing time) is pretty wide open. There is a lot of playing time to be earned. They all know that if they can master pass protection then they are in the race. If they can not get that then they are going to be watching someone else do it.
The goal of the first week is to install your system. Also, you observe who competes. There is always someone ready to jump up and get into the race. We talked about Tanner Strickland – he all of the sudden jumped up there and looked like he wanted to play some ball. You want to see that. You want to teach the proper fundamentals. You want to get the habit of doing it really well going.
Kenneth Harris has been outstanding. Durham has been outstanding.
