Martinez: No Changes to Depth Chart, Yet...

ATHENS – With a day watching film under their belts, Georgia's coaches aren't ready to discuss any changes to the depth chart.

The Bulldogs scrimmaged Monday afternoon, which usually marks the first point in which depth-chart reshuffling begins. Richt said he hasn't had time to discuss changes with his assistants yet, however, due to the fast pace of preseason camp.

Defensive coordinator Willie Martinez said he has made some evaluations, but nothing he considers a major surprise.

"Whenever you come off a scrimmage, whether you thought it was a bad scrimmage or you thought somebody played bad, you always have a different opinion after you watch it (on film)," Martinez said.

Among the success stories following film evaluations, Richt said, were interior defensive linemen Jeff Owens and Geno Atkins. Although they didn't play much during Monday's scrimmage, Richt said what they did do was impressive.

"When they were in there, they dominated the line of scrimmage," Richt said.

Richt also mentioned Rennie Curran, CJ Byrd and Vance Cuff as scrimmage standouts.

"There's some good, there's some bad, but a lot of it was expected at the first scrimmage," Martinez said.

How the good and bad performances affect playing time, however, remains to be seen.

"I'm going to wait a while to start naming some names," Martinez said.
