Whitaker Visits Athens Again

ATHENS – Georgia is keeping its eye on one of the top defensive tackles in state. He's keeping an eye on them, too.

Warner Robbins' Jeff Whitaker made the short trip north to Athens on Saturday to take in the Bulldogs' practice. He's been to Athens before, and the Dawgs are one of the schools he's thinking about in the recruiting game. Still, it's a long time before Signing Day 2010, so Whitaker is taking things slow.

"I went up there to watch them practice and meet with the coaches and talk," Whitaker said. "I talked with Coach Martinez. He just told me to continue doing what I do and he hopes that I want to be a Bulldog."

That decision seems a while in coming, however, as Whitaker maintains that he will have to narrow to a top-five-school list before making any decisions – and he still not nearly done making that list. He says that Clemson and Georgia are at the top, but he's trying to figure out the final three slots.

"I've not narrowed thing down yet," he confirmed. "I think I still probably need to see a few more schools – maybe like a Florida State. I am still trying to see who will take the two other spots (in the top five). That's one reason I've not stressed about cutting it down to five."

Whitaker indicated that time is not a factor in his decision-making process. He said he will asses the schools soon. He did say that he was interested in attending Georgia's first football game of the season – against Georgia Southern – but said that he was not sure if he would be able to get back up to Athens only hours after returning from his high school kickoff in Marietta.

"I think I've seen just about everything at Georgia," Whitaker said. "The only thing I've not seen in the dorms."
