With just a week before Georgia opens the regular season against Georgia Southern, Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is solidifying Saturday's starting lineup. He expects to start Kiante Tripp at left tackle, Vince Vance at left guard, Chris Davis at center, Cordy Glenn at right guard and Josh Davis at right tackle.
Richt said the offensive line looked revamped, "but they're not real solid yet, not cohesive, not used to playing with each other. If they play together, we've got a chance."
Following Saturday's practice, Richt said he was especially proud of the scout team. Richt and defensive coordinator Willie Martinez both said they're both worried about the safety position.
"I'm concerned with the depth at safety," Martinez said. "We can't afford to lose another safety, with the type of caliber player (Quentin Banks) is."
If anyone can challenge for a starting position, Martinez said it would be "Andrew Williams or John Knox. It wouldn't be the freshmen yet, although they've got the skill level and talent. I try to compare it to a quarterback. Safeties have to make the right calls, right checks. It's very fast-paced for them, and they're still dealing with the pace change from high school to college."
Richt will speak to the Athens Touchdown Club on Tuesday at the Athens Country Club. This will be the kickoff meeting for the club, in which Richt annually gives the membership a preview of the team and the upcoming season. The social hour beings at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. For information contact the club office at (706) 543-9860.
