Ga. Southern Week: Wednesday Practice Report

ATHENS - Georgia continued preparations for their season opener with Georgia Southern by conducting a 90-minute workout Wednesday.

Bulldog head coach Mark Richt said the Eagles are led by an outstanding coach in Chris Hatcher who is coming off a solid first season at GSU.

"He had a great first year and most coaches in their second season do well," Richt said. "

The Eagles had the second best turnaround in program history, improving four games from 2006 as they went 7-4 last year. In Richt's second season at Georgia, the Bulldogs went 13-1 and captured the 2002 Southeastern Conference title, the first for the program since 1982.

While everybody has depth, the difference with some teams is the experienced depth, and Richt mentioned that the Bulldogs right now are thin at offensive line and safety.

"At offensive line, the next three to go in are freshmen and at safety we could have an issue in a hurry with another injury," said Richt. "We had to some things at fullback but everywhere else we're okay.

Kickoff at Sanford Stadium will be at 12:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on a pay-per-view basis throughout Georgia by CSS. The Dog Walk for Saturday's game will be at 10:45, and there will be two pre-game ceremonies associated with Uga, the University of Georgia's mascot. At approximately 12:15 p.m., Uga VI, who died during the summer, will be honored. At approximately 12:19 p.m., Uga VII will be officially introduced to the Bulldog Nation.

When asked if he had met Uga VII yet, Richt said he had not and added that junior quarterback Matthew Stafford was interested in getting a picture with the Bulldog mascot as both are number sevens.

"It will be an exciting time on Saturday, we need to measure the decibel level when he's introduced," said Richt.
