Green Looks to Keep Starting Job at Carolina

ATHENS – Just two weeks into his college career, A.J. Green was already a starting receiver for Georgia.

A two-catch, one-touchdown performance in the Bulldogs' opener combined with an injury to starting split end Kenneth Harris opened up the lineup spot for Green, but head coach Mark Richt said that may not be guaranteed for this week's game against South Carolina.

"I'm not sure of that," Richt said. I'm not sure with Kenneth Harris – part of the reason (Green) started was because Mohamed (Massaquoi) moved to the X where Kenneth was and that opened something up for (Green). Whether or not he starts, I'm not sure, but he'll definitely play a lot."

It would be a nice honor at an opportune time for Green, who is a South Carolina native.

Green said he had dozens of friends and family who planned to attend the game, including his entire high school.

"Back home, they've got a waiting list for who can come to my games," Green said.

Regardless of whether his name is announced before kickoff or not, Richt said the key for Green will be to stay poised despite the excitement surrounding his homecoming.

"I hope he just plays his game and doesn't try to do more than he can do," Richt said. "I just want him to relax and be himself, because if he does his normal everyday practice, and he plays like he practices, he'll do fine."
