Alabama Week: Wednesday Practice Report

ATHENS - The No. 3-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0 SEC) held a spirited practice for two hours on a cool, breezy Wednesday afternoon as they prepare for the upcoming battle here with No. 8 Alabama.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said Wednesday's session was full of energy and enthusiasm, and that he was so pleased with the team's effort that he canceled the final conditioning period.

"Everybody is excited and looking forward to this game, it's Georgia-Alabama, it's going to be fun," said Richt. "Our fans are jacked up, so are our players, their players, our coaches, their coaches, Game Day is coming, we're where everybody wants to be Saturday."

A week after shuffling the offensive line starters, Richt indicated that the Bulldogs likely will go with the same unit that began the game against Arizona State. Overall, he said he expects another physical game with the Crimson Tide.

"We know we better be ready for them because if you're not, you'll get whipped physically," said Richt. "I know we better be physical."

Both teams feature star freshmen receivers in Georgia's A.J. Green and Alabama's Julio Jones who already have made an immediate impact.

"They are difference makers for their team," said Richt. "They're going to make big plays and that's usually the difference in our games because they're usually close. Both have already done it this season and will probably continue to do it."

Georgia junior fullback Brannan Southerland is expected to see his first action of the season following off-season foot surgery. Richt indicated Southerland will see action on the punt team and on field goals and extra points.
