ATHENS – Sophomore Darryl Gamble said he expects to get his first career start at middle linebacker Saturday against Tennessee, an indication injured starter Dannell Ellerbe won't be ready to play in time for the game.
Gamble, who has started two games this season at Sam linebacker, said he is anxious to be a big part of the game plan against the Volunteers.
"I haven't played a lot against Tennessee, just special teams really," Gamble said. "I think it'll be one of my better games, my first game starting at Mike. So I think it will be exciting for me."
Ellerbe said Monday he hoped to play this week, adding that he felt his chances of getting on the field were "better than 50/50."
Gamble seemed less convinced, however, noting that Ellerbe had yet to practice since suffering a knee injury in the first quarter of Georgia's loss to Alabama on Sept. 27.
"He's going to try to play, try to get a few snaps here and there to see how he feels," Gamble said. "He didn't practice (Monday), so I'm thinking he's not going to play much."
