LSU Week: Sunday Practice Report

ATHENS - After winning its second straight SEC game at home over the weekend, the Georgia football team on Monday kicked off preparations for its upcoming game at LSU.

The Bulldogs are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the SEC following their win over Vanderbilt last week. The Tigers are 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.

As per their normal Monday routine, the Bulldogs did conditioning for the first part and ended with special teams work.

³I liked the energy level and the tempo of the practice,² Georgia coach Mark Richt said. ³We got a lot of work done and we had a good start to the week. We have a tremendous amount of respect for LSU, and we have to be extremely focused this week in what we do.²

Richt announced the captains for this week¹s game will be Mohamed Massaquoi on offense, Corvey Irvin and CJ Byrd on defense, and Darius Dewberry on special teams.

³I think we¹re looking forward to going on the road this week,² Irvin said. ³On the road, it¹s just the team, and we can come together. Baton Rouge is a tough place and their fans really get into the game, and we know it¹s going to be like that. So it¹s very important that we are focused and that we are all on the same page.²

Earlier Monday, tailback Knowshon Moreno was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Moreno rushed for a season-high 172 yards and a touchdown in the win over Vanderbilt. Moreno became the 13th player in school history to surpass 2,000 yards rushing in a career (he now has 2,096). Moreno leads the SEC in scoring at 9.43 points per game and Georgia leads the SEC in total offense (429.6 yards per game).
