Florida Week: Wednesday Practice Report

ATHENS - Georgia practiced for 90 minutes in jerseys, shoulder pads and shorts Wednesday in preparation for their game with fifth-ranked Florida in Jacksonville.

The Bulldogs (7-1, 4-1 SEC) and Gators (6-1, 4-1 SEC) are tied for first in the Eastern Division of the SEC and looking to remain in the driver's seat for a chance at a conference title.

"The winner has control of the East, and the loser loses it," said Bulldog head coach Mark Richt. "That's the most tangible thing that is at stake. You have to win the East and then you have a shot at the SEC. Then, if you keep winning, you might have a shot in the BCS. Right now, we're concentrating on the East."

The Bulldogs are looking to win their second straight over the Gators.

"We've won two of the past four including last year, and our guys know it's a tremendous battle," said Richt. "They are excited about it."

Richt said he is hopeful that senior starting linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and senior starting tight end Tripp Chandler will be available this Saturday. They have missed the past three games due to injuries and did not travel last week to LSU. He indicated that they will be on the plane to Jacksonville unless there's some last minute change. Also, Richt said redshirt freshman tight end Aron White is "ready to go."

Florida's defense is led by junior linebacker Brandon Spikes, and Richt said he makes the Gators go.

"He's a great football player, a big-time hitter, and he's a leader for them," said Richt. "There's mostly freshmen and sophomores on defense, and they are still number one in scoring defense.
