Auburn Week: Monday Practice Report

ATHENS - With the sounds of the Redcoat Marching Band in the air, the 13th-ranked Georgia football team on Monday kicked off preparations for its upcoming game at Auburn.

Following Saturday¹s 42-38 win over Kentucky in Lexington, the Bulldogs are 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the SEC. Auburn is 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the league, snapping a four-game losing streak with a 37-20 win over UT-Martin last Saturday.

³In the SEC, you can¹t look at a team¹s record because every game is going to be difficult,² linebacker Darryl Gamble said. ³We know Auburn has a good team and we know we will need a good game plan this week.²

As per their normal Monday routine, the Bulldogs did conditioning for the first part and ended with special teams work.

³Auburn has a fine football team,² Georgia coach Mark Richt said. ³We will have to play at a high level in this game. We need a strong week of practice to reach that level, and I think we got off to a good start tonight. I liked the energy and the tempo we had.²

Richt announced the captains for this week¹s game will be Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno on offense, Rennie Curran on defense, and Andrew Williams on special teams.

Earlier Monday, it was announced by the league office that freshman center Ben Jones had been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week. Jones anchored the offensive line during the Bulldogs¹ 42-38 road win over Kentucky. Georgia piled up 520 yards of total offense as Moreno rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns and Stafford threw for a career-high 376 yards and three touchdowns.
