2010's Rogers Emerges at WR

Georgia has never been known as fertile ground for producing wide receivers, but may change in 2010.

The state is loaded with big-time prospects at the position. Dawg Post.com was on hand recently to check on one of the best in Calhoun's Da'rick Rogers.

Rogers is a 6'3 physical specimen that may be the best-looking player in Georgia in pads. He is really physical and does not get jammed on the line of scrimmage. On the night I was in attendance he made a diving catch on a fade route in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown. He also took a bubble screen and broke a few tackles to pick up five tough yards. Considering the spread offense, which was being run at the time, that play was basically a running play which makes him even more attractive to college coaches. Yards after the catch is a factor coaches covet in a big slot receiver.

"I have been to Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn and Florida so far this season," Rogers told me after the contest. I am looking at Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Texas and Tennessee hard"

FINAL WORD: The only negative I can see with Rogers at this time is he takes plays off when the ball is away from him. He drifts into routes instead of exploding to a spot. All of this will be corrected quickly on the next level. Make no mistake - Rogers will be a hot name on the recruiting circuit over the next 14 months.
