Lady Dawgs Fall 70-66 to Detroit

Detroit made the both ends of two one-and-one situations in the final 24 seconds to hold off a furious Georgia rally and secure a 70-66 win over the Lady Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

Ashley Houts scored 17 points to lead Georgia, which also received double-doubles from Angel Robinson (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Porsha Phillips (12 points, 10 boards).

Zemora Davis poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the Titans, who were playing their home opener.

The Titans (1-2) led by three points at halftime but started quickly in the second stanza, pushing their lead to double digits at 44-34 with 16:51 remaining. Georgia (2-1) rallied to within two at 46-44 before Detroit again expanded its edge to 10 points at 54-44 at the 9:49 mark.

The Lady Bulldogs eventually knotted the score at 62-62 on a three-pointer by Houts with 2:19 left. The teams traded buckets before Davis put Detroit ahead 66-64. On Georgia's ensuing possession, Angela Puleo missed a three from the right wing with 30 seconds left and Christy Marshall failed to convert following her offensive board.

Lauren Allen, who missed the front end of a one-and-one with 50 seconds left, then converted both chances with 23.8 seconds remaining to push Detroit up 68-64. Heather Hatter iced the win with a pair of three throws with 8.4 seconds left.

A back-and-forth first half featured six ties and four lead changes. The Titans moved ahead 18-17 on a layup by Allen with 11:48 left and never trailed the rest of the period. Georgia managed to knot the score at 25-25, 27-27 and 32-32 but could not gain an advantage.

Georgia returns to action on Wednesday when the Lady Bulldogs host North Carolina Central at Stegeman Coliseum at 7:00 p.m.

The UGA Athletic Association has teamed up with Honey Baked Hams for several pre-Thanksgiving promotions in association with the contest. Fans in attendance can register for 10 Honey Baked turkeys to be given out randomly throughout the game. In addition, fans can register for the chance to compete in "turkey bowling" for additional Honey Baked turkeys.

A coloring contest sheet has been distributed to local school children. The coloring sheet also can be downloaded from the website under the "promotions calendar" prompt underneath the "fan zone" button bar at the top of the home page. All completed sheets turned in at the game will be entered into a contest for turkey-shaped stuff animals to be awarded during the game.

Rounding out the night, Hairy Dawg and his special guest Hamby, the Honey Baked Ham mascot, will be available for photos with fans at the game.
