TJ Gartrell, son of Stephenson Head Coach Ron Gartrell, said that his father "fell in love with Georgia," the day that his son committed to play for the red and black.
"I like their program, their players, and Coach Richt and Eason," said Gartrell of the Dawgs.
Like many of the recruits and players involved in Georgia's football program, Gartrell stressed that a family driven atmosphere was the key to his commitment. "They have a family-like atmosphere in the program. I also like the SEC because of the competition and the opportunity to play in front of a huge crowd," said Gartrell.
Gartrell said that he will probably room with current teammate and fellow Georgia commit Kregg Lumpkin when he gets to Athens. He said that Athens itself was a fun place to visit and that "there are lots of things to do."
He also added that their could be a little teasing between the Stephenson players and Parkview players, but that it will all be in good fun. "We'll probably talk a little bit, but now we are teammates," said Gartrell.
"I am running track this year and lift weights to stay in condition," added Gartrell. He also said that John Eason has talked with him about the coaching staff's plans for him next year, "Coach Eason told me to go in there and work hard and whatever happens happens. I am not scared of being redshirted, if it happened would be for the best reason."
