Dawgs Beat Ohio State: News and Notes

TALLAHASSEE, FL - News and notes from Georgia's win over Ohio State.

*Georgia is now 46-26 in 10 NCAA Postseason appearances including a 26-10 mark in NCAA Regionals.

*Georgia recorded season highs in runs (24), hits (23) and total bases (24)

*The Bulldogs tied a season-high with seven home runs, including three by Rich Poythress and two each Joey Lewis and Matt Cerione, to set a new school record with 105 home runs this season. The previous mark was 102 by the 1987 team.

*Poythress drove in seven runs to set a new single season school record with 84 RBI, breaking the previous mark of 77 set by Gordon Beckham last year. The last Georgia player to drive in seven runs was Gordon Beckham against Furman in 2007.

*Poythress now has 24 home runs, four shy of the single season record also set by Gordon Beckham last year. Georgia is now 16-2 when Poythress hits a home run.

*Poythress hit his 48th career double in the first inning, moving him into a tie for ninth all-time at Georgia.

*Matt Cerione's five hits (two home runs and three singles) was a career-high.

*Georgia's 10 runs in the eighth was the most runs in an inning since scoring 13 in the eighth inning against Liberty in 2004.

*Joey Lewis hit a three-run home run in the first inning and a solo homer in the fourth for his second career-multi home run game. Lewis also hit two against Winthrop on April 8.

*The game was delayed by rain and lightning for five hours, 12 minutes. Georgia was involved in a four hour, 27-minute rain delay last Saturday against LSU in the SEC Tournament.

*The Bulldogs' four stolen bases matched a season high (vs. Lemoyne on March 11 and at Kentucky on April 11).

*Georgia's 24 runs were the most scored since a 24-6 win over Liberty in 2004.

*Georgia is now 33-3 when leading after six innings.
