Fox Releases Dawgs' 2009-10 Schedule

ATHENS — Fifteen of Georgia's 29 regular-season games will come against teams that competed in the 2009 postseason, according to the Bulldogs' basketball schedule that was announced Thursday by head coach Mark Fox.

In addition to the lineup of Southeastern Conference opponents, four other so-called "power" conferences – the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten and Big Twelve – are also represented.

"We're excited for the new season to get started and for the challenge that our schedule will present to this team," Fox said. "It's a schedule that should not only help our own power rating, but the league's rating as well, especially toward the end of the season. Our focus, of course, will be on one game at a time, but as a whole, this schedule will be as tough as any team's in the country."

Highlights of the non-conference slate at Stegeman Coliseum include Georgia Tech's biennial trip to Athens on Jan. 5; a Dec. 2 date against Atlantic 10 Conference member St. Louis and head coach Rick Majerus; and a Dec. 30 game against Pepperdine. Georgia tips off the season with a pair of home dates – a Nov. 6 exhibition against North Georgia and the regular-season opener Nov. 13 vs. New Orleans – intentionally scheduled on Friday evenings before home football games.

It is away from Athens, however, where the 2010 Bulldogs will be most sternly tested. Georgia's three "true" road games – at UAB, Virginia Tech and Missouri – would be challenging enough for most teams. The Bulldogs will also face St. John's at Madison Square Garden in the SEC/Big East Challenge on Dec. 9. They'll play 2009 NCAA Tournament entry Illinois at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth on Dec. 19.
