After receiving commitments from two linebackers — Marcus Howard and Jarvis Jackson — last weekend but having offensive lineman Carlton Medder pull back on his pledge, Georgia has 22 verbal commitments. Medder now is thought to be leaning toward Florida.
There were at least six recruits in Athens this weekend, including another linebacker, Mitchell Thomas of Smiths Station High School.
Offensive lineman James Lee of Belle Glade, Fla., originally had planned to visit Georgia this weekend after making a trip to Ohio State last weekend. Lee (6-5, 270) switched his planned trip to Georgia for next weekend and instead stayed in state to visit Florida. Georgia, Florida and Ohio State are thought to be Lee's final choices.
One of the top recruits on the lists of at least five major colleges, running back and linebacker Ernie Sims of Tallahassee, has not been able to narrow his five finalists: Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Miami.
Sims, rated by TheInsiders.com as the nation's top recruit at any position, told Countdown to Signing Day on Fox Sports Net South that he probably would not eliminate any schools for at least another week.
