Arizona State Week: Tuesday Practice Report

ATHENS - A day after torrential rains sacked Athens and the rest of North Georgia, the Georgia Bulldogs practiced under nearly cloudless skies on Tuesday afternoon. Georgia (2-1, 2-0 SEC) worked out for nearly two and a half hours in full pads in their most demanding session of the week in preparation for Saturday's game with Arizona State (2-0).

"Practice went well for the most part," head coach Mark Richt said. "The tempo was good. The energy level was good. The scouts did a very good job of showing us the looks we needed. Overall, it was a good day."

Richt announced the team's captains for Saturday's game during the team's pre-practice stretching. Quarterback Joe Cox and receiver Michael Moore will be captains of the offense, lineman Kade Weston will represent the defense and punter Drew Butler will be the special teams captain.

Richt discussed the matchup with the Sun Devils at length during the Bulldogs' press conference at Stegeman Coliseum earlier on Tuesday.

³We are playing Arizona State for the second year in a row," Richt said. "We were fortunate to go to their place and get a victory. Now they are coming to play us. I¹m sure they aren¹t too thrilled about the fact that we beat them last year; they¹ll be ready to go. They are outstanding all the way around. They are undefeated. I¹m sure they are excited about the opportunity to come and play an SEC team and maybe get a little revenge. Coach (Dennis) Erickson, we all know, has won a couple of national championships. He¹s been coach of the year many times. We are going to have a heck of a game. I¹m looking forward to it. It¹s good to get a couple of wins under our belt and grab a little momentum. Hopefully we can keep it going.²

ESPNU will televise the game with kickoff slated for 7:05 p.m. ET. Saturday will mark the first appearance on the ESPNU network for Georgia, which is ranked No. 17 and No. 21 in this week's AP and USA Today polls, respectively.
