Vanderbilt Week: Tuesday Practice Report

ATHENS - Georgia practiced in full pads for two and a half hours on Tuesday afternoon as they worked to install their game plan for this weekend's game with Vanderbilt (2-4, 0-3 SEC) in Nashville.

"Practice today was good," head coach Mark Richt said. "We got a lot of good work in. I'm continued to be impressed with the progress of (Bacarri) Rambo. He's playing with a lot of confidence, and I really think he's going to help us out."

During his pre-practice talk with the Bulldogs, Richt named this week's team captains. Three of the four captains will be tackles -- Geno Atkins and Kade Weston on defense and Clint Boling on offense. Redshirt freshman Sanders Commings earned the first captain's "C" of his career to represent the special teams.

"Sanders played really well on special teams last week," Richt said. "He's a guy who has been close to making a lot of plays. Last week, he took it to another level. I'm pleased we were able to reward him by naming him a captain."

At lunchtime on Tuesday, Richt and selected players took part in the Bulldogs' weekly press conference. There he discussed the matchup with the Commodores in detail.

"We have to get back on the winning track against Vanderbilt, that¹s our hope," Richt said. "Coach (Bobby) Johnson has done a really fine job there. Since we¹ve been playing them for so many years, we¹ll go back years on the video and it seems like every year you progress, they are getting faster and more athletic. They are really playing extremely well, especially on defense. They have had their struggles on offense, but defensively they are really giving everybody a bunch of grief. Overall they are a very well-coached team. It is a team that I¹m sure is just as hungry for a victory as we are. We are looking forward to getting over there and getting back on the winning track."
