Reporter: Martinez Gone? (Updated)

ATHENS – Georgia will not retain defensive coordinator Willie Martinez according to an ESPN reporter, but Dawg Post has been unable to confirm the story.

However, Dawg Post can not confirm the story. Dawg Post's attempts to reach Martinez were unsuccessful. Georgia's sports information department did not immediately return phone calls regrading the report.

ESPN reporter Joe Schad said "Georgia will not retain DC Willie Martinez" on his Twitter page about 12:30 on Wednesday. Schad followed up with "Georgia is not making any announcements regarding Willie Martinez at this time."

Schad has incorrectly reported stories regarding Georgia in the recent past, so his credibility could come into question with anything regarding the Bulldogs.

The timing of the move is a bit strange as Martinez was on the road recruiting as late as Tuesday night in south Florida. Also, Martinez was at Tucker earlier today.

Martinez has come under fire the past two seasons for the poor performance of the Bulldogs' defense.

The Bulldogs will have a regularly scheduled meeting later this afternoon, but some coaches could still be on the road recruiting. Even the meeting might not give an indication one way or another about Martinez's future in Athens.

Mark Richt has stayed away from statements concerning the future of his coaching staff during and after the 2009 season.
