One year ago another inexperienced linebacker on the Georgia depth chart mattered very little. With Boss Bailey, Tony Gilbert, and Chris Clemmons at the top of the depth chart another linebacker was not needed.
One year later, however, with all three starters gone, Georgia needs linebacker help immediately. So when Odell Thurman returned on Saturday for Georgia's first spring practice, he was put to work right away.
Said Thurman of his return, "It just feels good. You have to love the atmosphere coming back as the SEC champs. I love the opportunity to be back."
But this time last year Thurman was not sure that he would ever get the chance to play for Georgia ever again. "To tell you the truth a year ago I never thought that I would make it back," he said. "But now I am here and it feels great to be here."
Thurman said that being away from Georgia while the Dawgs were having their best season in the last 20 years was difficult. "Not being here it seemed like a long time," said Thurmond about watching the Dawgs win the SEC.
You get a sense that Thurman appreciates the opportunity that he missed last season. "Not being here lets you appreciate it more. I appreciate everything now," he said.
Currently Thurman is number two Mike linebacker behind Derrick White.
