Profile 2004 - Eric McClendon (DT/OL)

"While it's too early to say who exactly is the #1 player in the state of Georgia, the rest of the state has a big mountain to climb to top big Eric McClendon."

That is what I had to say about McClendon two weeks ago, and while it's still early, he has only gotten bigger and stronger in the past month.

McClendon competes in the State Weightlifting competition, and he took second with competition lifts (no cheating or spot helpers) of 560 on the squat, a power clean of 345, and a 375 pound bench press.

That he works hard in the weight room is a given, but McClendon is also working hard in the classroom. While he does not yet have the core GPA to be eligible, he is taking night classes as well as his regular class work. He has some ground to make up, but he is dedicated to improving.

Schools are going to be lining up to sign this talented big man, but one school has an early edge.

"Georgia is my leader right now," said McClendon. "I went there for the game against Clemson last year. I really like the surroundings in Athens, and I like the coaching staff they have there. I'm also looking at Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, and Miami right now."

McClendon is in no hurry to make a decision on his future, and it looks like he will take all five of his visits before he makes a final decision.
