If you like defensive struggles, then today's scrimmage at Georgia would be your kind of game. Only one touchdown was scored all day and even it came on a broken play. D. J. Shockley found Martrez Milner on a busted play for the lone touchdown of the day.
"Defense dominated the day because of the line situation," said Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt. Injuries played a vital role in the offensive line's inability to defend.
"By the end of the 2nd half the defense was getting in the backfield all the time," said Richt. Injuries have also become and issue on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman Darrell Holmes is also healing a hurt shoulder. But more alarming, the secondary is now hurting like the offensive line.
Three members of Georgia's secondary are banged up and will not return this spring. Bruce Thornton has a hurt foot; Greg Blue was wearing a cast on his right hand and will not return this spring; and Decory Bryant will miss the rest of spring practice with a hurt shoulder.
"You are going to get banged up some," said Richt of spring practice. But even with all of the injuries and the lack of offense, Richt said that the day was promising.
"For a first scrimmage is was a clean day. There were no fumbles or interceptions," he said.
