"Joe Mingo is Michael Vick at the high school level," Clinch County Head Coach Cecil Barber said. "He has extremely quick feet and makes people miss. You can't teach that. Joe is strong too (330 bench press, 600+ squat) and he has some pop. He is the type of quarterback that never gets rattled and never gets too high or too low. He can throw the ball or run the option very well."
The big question at the next level for Mingo is what position he will play. In the right offense he could be a quarterback. If not, Mingo could be a fantastic safety or wide receiver.
"I just want to play football and it doesn't matter the position," Mingo said. "I love running the ball and making those quick moves and making the defense miss. But I think I throw pretty well too."
Right now, Mingo doesn't have any scholarship offers but that should soon change. The South Georgia standout should have a very busy May in regards to recruiting.
"Right now Georgia is my leader. I went up there last year and I love their facilities, coaches and how they treat everyone. I also like Miami, Florida State, Florida and Tennessee. I am looking at academics and winning tradition. Like I said, the position thing really doesn't matter. I just want to play football."
Mingo and his teammates, Lorenzo Kelsaw (RB) and Dexter Foster (WR) will attend the Nike Camp at the University of Florida. Mingo would also like to attend summer camps at Miami, Georgia, FSU and Tennessee. He is also a track and basketball standout.
