Gonzaga Soccer Team makes the Big Dance

Zach Scott and the rest of the Zag soccer team will take their game to Montlake to do battle with the Portland Pilots, then hopefully the UW Huskies, in the NCAA Tournament. This is a first for the program.

It wasn't that long ago when Gonzaga's mens basketball team earned their first NCAA Tournament birth. Now they have some company on campus.

After a stellar season, the Gonzaga mens soccer team has been given an at-large birth in the NCAA Soccer Tournament, which begins Friday.

The Zags had reached as high as 16th in the nation in polls this season as they knocked off one perennial power after another.

Gonzaga will take on Portland to start things off on Friday. Everybody has heard of the soccer legends, from Pele' to Mia Hamm, and the World Cup is a phenomenal event, packing stadiums with Rose Bowl-sized crowds of the most rabid fans in the world.

While the Zags don't have Pele' nor a crowd of 100,000, Zach Scott (see picture below) will help lead his team in the tournament. We at Zags Hoops know how tough it is to achieve a postseason birth and we're thrilled for the GU soccer team. Good luck, guys!
