It was a special night in Spokane. Four seniors who have been the cornerstone for Gonzaga's rise to prominance played their final game at home. And all four had memorable plays.
Ashley Burke had a tremendous "And-1" to go with her overall superb play in the post, Delphine LeCoultre had a wonderful turnaround jumper that was all net, Raeanna Jewell had a breakaway double-pump layup, and Shannon Mathews had one awesome assist after another, being the epitome of a "Floor General."
Stephanie Hawk scored 20 points as 25th-ranked Gonzaga wrapped up a perfect 14-0 West Coast Conference season Saturday night with their nation-best 21st straight win, an 81-35 rout of Portland.
Ashley Burke and Raeanna Jewell, two of the Bulldogs' four seniors, combined for 32 more points with sophomore Katy Ridenour adding 10. Anne Bailey also had another solid game.
A crowd every bit as large as any of the men's team has played in front of came to watch the game and show the respect that the ladies so richly deserve.
