Gonzaga hosts BYU in WNIT!!

Kelly Graves' women built an incredible 27-3 season but one loss in the WCC Tournament was enough to give the NCAA Selection Committee a reason to snub the new kids on the block, so athletic director Mike Roth secured an opening round WNIT game in Gonzaga's new arena.

Gonzaga men's coach Mark Few called it the biggest travesty of Selection Sunday. That's how awful the omission of Gonzaga's women from the NCAA Tournament was.

But rather than dwell on the negative, the Zags went out and got a home-opener against the BYU Lady Cougars.

At 7:00pm Wednesday, the McCarthey Athletic Center will come alive with the action and GU Nation invites everyone to attend and help the 27-3 Lady Bulldogs prove to the NCAA that they made a mistake.

Tickets can be purchased starting on Monday morning at the McCarthey Athletic Center Ticket Office and at all TicketsWest locations. Prices are $10 for reserved seats, $7 for general admission and $5 for children, seniors and Gonzaga students. McCarthey Athletic Center ticket office hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or fans can purchase by phone at (509) 323-4202.

BYU enters the WNIT field with a 19-10 record and was knocked out of the Mountain West Conference Tournament semifinals by the University of Utah, a team Gonzaga beat in December. This will be the fifth meeting between BYU and Gonzaga. The winner of the GU/BYU game will face the winner of the Southern Methodist University/Southwest Missouri State University game on either Saturday, Sunday or Monday. Game location and date will be determined after both games are completed with the SMU/SMS game being played on Thursday night.

Says Head Coach Kelly Graves: "We are glad to be at home for the WNIT. This gives our fans a chance to come out and support our program one more time this season. BYU is a really talented team which should make for a great first-round match-up."
