WCC Tournament Projections: Week 5

San Diego rolled into 2nd-place while San Francisco bumped St. Mary's down to 4th in WCC standings. Loyola-Marymount's upset of Gonzaga helped shuffle the lower teams. It is starting to get interesting.

San Diego moved into sole possession of second place in the WCC and the number 2 seed in the conference tournament by virtue of its two victories this past week while St. Mary's dropped two slots into the number 4 position.

The bottom four teams shuffled their positions in the cellar, but that doesn't mean a lot since the bottom four all have to play in the tournament's first round. The WCC Game of the Week will be Thursday's Pepperdine at San Diego match. If the Waves want to move out of the bottom half of the conference and avoid the dreaded number 5 seed, they're going to have to make ground on #4 St. Mary's. This is their chance to begin that quest. Based on today's WCC standings, this is how the conference tournament pairings project:

Note: One of the WCC semi-final games will be an ESPN game.

Championship:

Semi-final winners play on Monday night on ESPN for WCC tournament championship and resulting automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
