Instate WR Enjoys GV Visit

One of the Lakers' visitors for Saturday's game against Findlay was a All-Combine performer. GVReport caught up with the talented pass catcher to get his thoughts on the Laker team and the Grand Valley campus.

Daryl Gooden has caught our eye several times now. He was one of the better underclassmen at last year's Michigan Summer Camp, then he was an Combine performer in Cincinnati and then he performed well again at Grand Valley's summer camp.

Saturday, the Ann Arbor Huron wideout was in Allendale taking in the sights and sounds of GVSU on gameday and came away quite impressed.

"I lke the campus a lot," he reported, "it looks so good and I love the team. They play HARD!"

Gooden's father, Daryl Sr. played defensive tackle for the Lakers back in the 1970's and Daryl Jr had already been to campus for camp, but the visit allowed him to see more of the area as well as the school and continue to forge relationships with the staff.

"I talked to defensive backs coach/defensive coordinator [Matt] Pawlowski," Gooden said, "he said he was glad I made it out. On my visit I went around the city and looked at the buildings. I love that glass and they are making an indoor field that will be done when I get there if I go."

As far as when that decision will be made, it is still up in the air, but one thing is for certain right now is that the Lakers are very much in the running for Gooden's services.

"Grand Valley could be a school I go to. I'm looking at Central Michigan too because they pass a lot, but thats really it."

For the season, Gooden has 12 receptions for 150 yards and two touchdowns. He also has returned three kickoffs, one for an 81 yard touchdown and has nine special teams tackles.

GVReport will continue to follow Gooden and other Grand Valley recruits right up until National Signing Day
