Willis Will Visit GVSU

Chaz Willis is getting attention from schools all over the country, but one school close to home has caught the versatile athlete's attention. GVReport got the scoop on his recruitment and how Grand Valley fits in.

Chaz Willis has been doing it all for Portage Central. The 5'8, 165-lb senior plays cornerback, running back, returns kicks, punts and is even the holder on field goals and extra points. That kind of versatility has gotten him noticed by a number of different schools. GVReport caught up with his mother, Gwen Willis, for the latest on her son's recruitment.

"The schools most interested are Central Michigan, Southern Mississippi, Miami-Ohio and Nebraska," she said, "They all sent letters congratulating him on being identified as one of the top athletes in Michigan. He has been invited as a potential recruit to their campuses and received three football tickets for a home game. We attended Miami-Ohio this past weekend. He has also been indentified by Indiana as a potential recruit."

Willis has not been offered by any of those schools, but he will be visiting Central Michigan this weekend. But it was another instate school that recently contacted him that has both Chaz and his mom excited.

"Grand Valley State is another interested school," she reported, "Coach Fuchs called and spoke with Chaz this weekend and invited him to campus. He plans to come up for the Ferris State game on October 27."

The visit will be Willis' first visit to Allendale and also his initial chance to see the Lakers in action.

GVReport will have video highlights up on Willis later this week and will continue to follow his recruitment right up until Signing Day.
