Staff Prediction: GVSU at Northwood

The Lakers travel to Northwood today. The Timberwolves have been up and down this season, but junior RB Torris Childs has had a strong season, can the GVSU defense contain him? The GVReport staff breaks down the game.

Kyle Schwerin
A once great rivalry has lately been dominated by GV, at least since their last playoff matchup. GV dominated last year's game shutting down senior Kyle Kolbe and the rest of the Woodbone offense. This year there's a first-year starting QB in Spencer Klukowski (Rockford HS) learning the ropes of the offense.

I would anticipate Northwood, particularly Torris Childs, to have success running up the middle against GV for a while until Chuck Martin decides to bring 1 or both safeties down into the box and leave All-American Carr and Bill Brechin on an island with the receivers. Then it should be all Lakers from the middle of the first quarter on.

GVSU - 42
Northwood - 7

Allen Trieu
The Lakers have been rolling along this season and though Northwood is a typically dangerous conference foe, this year's squad has been inconsistent. The way both teams have been playing, there is reason to believe that this year's score might resemble last year's 45-7 GV victory.

Iciek and the offense had maybe their most efficient game last week and after the way the GV defense contained Joique Bell against Wayne State, I have to believe Torris Childs won't have a significant impact on this game. Lakers dominante, Northwood puts up a score or two late.

GVSU - 49
Northwood - 13
