Does GVSU Lead for Burchyett?

When Saline's season ended on Friday, so too did the high school career of Hornet wide receiver Sam Burchyett. But there is plenty of football still left in this young man's future as he is drawing recruiting interest from several schools including Grand Valley. Where do the Lakers stand with this speedster?

One career ends and another is itching to begin for Saline wide receiver Sam Burchyett. The 6'2, 180-lb wideout's high school career came to a close this past weekend.

"Our season ended Friday night," Burchyett told GVReport, "Injuries during the week really hurt our line play and we lost to South Lyon 22-7."

The senior did have one last highlight in him for the Hornet home crowd though.

"My last home game as a Hornet ended on a high note with a TD reception stretched out, dragging a foot and landing in the band."

The Hornets not making the postseason was certainly not due to a lack of effort or production on Burchyett's part. He finished the season with 41 receptions for 850 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also added over 500 yards and two scores in the return game.

"I could have had a lot more return yards," he stated, "but the opposing teams stopped kicking to me after the first 4 games."

Now the bulk of his attention will turn towards recruiting, where the interest in the speedy wideout has increased. "There have been lts of requests for highlights and game tapes," he reported, "I hope to make some more visits this month and in November and want to make a decision in December. I am really looking for a good fit where I can contribute ASAP."

One place that may offer him that opportunity is in Allendale, where Burchyett has been on the Laker radar for some time.

"he GVSU 35 game win streak, the great coaches and facilities have kept them as one of my top choices," he said, adding,"I'm looking forward to making a decision. I've worn navy and yellow since 7th grade, it will be weird but cool to wear some new colors."

So while there won't be any more Friday night lights on the horizon for Sam Burchyett, he can rest assured that more football is definitely in his future.

"Yeah, Its tough but I'm lookin forward to a fresh start."
