Staff Prediction: Ferris State

It's a blustery fall night, perfect for football though as GVSU battles rival Ferris State. As usual, the GVReport staff gives you our pregame predictions on the contest.

Hopefully GVSU doesn't turn this into a trap game with Saginaw Valley coming next week. Ferris might not be the best team in the GLIAC, but the rivalry always makes it a little more exciting.

C.J. Van Wieren is a dual-threat at QB and last year was the best runner that Ferris had on the field. The GV defense has been great with not allowing the QB's to run this year though, so CJ shouldn't be too big of a factor.

Robert Miller has proven to be one of the most explosive players in the GLIAC this season, and Ferris uses him much like Grand Valley uses Blake Smolen in a RB/Slot WR role. He's lightning fast and might rip off a big play or 2 if the GV defense isn't on their toes when he comes in for a change of pace.

In the end though, the more talented team should be coming out on top yet again.

Grand Valley State - 42
Ferris State - 13

Allen Trieu Northwood was able to put up some points last week. I think this defense as a result, will come out tonight with a chip on their shoulder.

Throw in the home crowd, the rivalry and that crisp chill in the air that lets you know it's crunch time in football and this will be one fired up Laker team.

But, this is a rivalry for Ferris too and a bit of a homecoming for QB CJ Van Wieren. But I expect the Lakers to keep him in check and meanwhile get another efficient outing from Brad Iciek.

GVSU - 31
Ferris State - 6
