GVSU Recruiting Notebook

Saturday's Ferris State contest was not only big in terms of it being a rivalry game, but also because a number of high profile recruits were in attendance. GVReport gives you the low down on some of the top prospects in attendance and other quick notes on other recruits on the GVSU radar.

One of the recruits in attendance for Saturday's Ferris State game was Portage Central CB Chaz Willis. GVReport caught up with his mother, Gwen Willis, who gave us this update on his visit and his recruitment:

"Chaz visited GV on Saturday and really liked the campus. We were on the Central Michigan campus for a football invite a few weekends ago. He has Western Michigan coming up on the November 6th, but as of now I think he was most impressed with GV. Chaz was also named to the all-conference defense team this week."

Another prospect in the stands that night was Grand Rapids West Catholic QB Kirk Deering. Although he is a standout signal caller for West Catholic, Deering tells GVReport that he would play defensive back at GVSU. Deering and his teammate, LB/DE Tony Iacovoni would be a nice "two-fer" for the Lakers.

Detroit Cass Tech WR Anthony Anchrum as an offer from Eastern Michigan and has other top programs including Boston College and Cincinnati interested in his services. The 6'1, 175-lb Anchrum is a fine athlete who has played receiver, safety and quarterback as well as returned punts for the Technicians. This past week, he told us Grand Valley was one of the many programs looking to get a longer look at him.

"Coaches are calling me left and right asking me for tape," he said, "Boston College, Eastern Michigan, Miami(Oh), Toledo, Grand Valley State, Central Michigan and Howard."

Ancrhum also said he doesn't know too much about GVSU yet and wants to make sure he'll be able to get the exposure in Allendale he would receive elsewhere.

GVReport will continue to follow these recruits and others right up until Signing Day.
