California JUCO Lineman Likes GVSU

The Lakers have had some success stepping outside the Midwest and going out to the west coast for recruits in recent years. Derrick Jones is one name that springs to mind and currently, the roster has five players from the Golden State. It appears GVSU might be going to the well yet again as GVReport has learned that another junior college player from Cali has GV high on his list.

One of the players expected to make a significant contribution for GVSU in the near future is DT Tupua Ioane. Ioane is just one of five current Lakers who transferred to Grand Valley from a California junior college. Ioane may soon be joined on the line by another big plugger from the Golden State.

Brian Giles, a 6'2, 315-lb defensive tackle from Citrus College (Glendora, CA) is considering becoming a Laker. Giles lists GVSU as one of his top schools, but has several other options as far as schools he could transfer to, including a couple of big names from BCS conferences.

"I've talked to coaches at Arizona State and NC State," he told GVReport, as for D2 schools, he said, "I'm being recruited by Northwest Missouri State, Tarleton State and a few others."

Although he is being courted by some of Division II's traditional powers, Giles still is savvy about the recent success the Lakers have had and as a result, it is GVSU who sits at the top of his list of schools.

"I'm thinking I'm going to go D2 and Grand Valley is the best one, they're number one, they're always in contention."

Although he is currently a long way away from Allendale, Giles is thinking he may take the long flight in order to make sure it is where he wants to be.

"I would like to go out there for a visit, I haven't yet, but I would like to see the campus."

This past season, Giles had 17.5 tackles for loss for Citrus. GVReport will continue to follow Giles and other Laker recruits all year long!
