GVTarget: Allante Shy

One of the state's best rushing attacks this season has been Detroit Denby's. While most of the attention has been focused on bruising speedster Glenn Winston, it has been a two headed attack for the Tars and GVSU has taken notice of the lightning to Winston's thunder.

Detroit Denby has been good to Grand Valley of late. Many who follow recruiting closely felt the Lakers "stole one" last season when Denby LB Andre Thomas committed to GVSU.

This season, Denby again has a number of talented prospects to offer. RB/DB Allante Shy has reported interest from GVSU along with Michigan State and Purdue.

GVReport saw the 5'9, 190-lb Shy this summer at a couple combines as well as in Denby's game against Birmingham Brother Rice.

A track star as well, Shy certainly has the speed to play at the next level. At the ThinkDetroit PAL combine, he ran twice in the 4.4s. But this isn't just a fast kid, this is a football player.

Denby head coach Drake Watkins does not release stats to avoid his players getting big headed, but Shy has made a number of big plays for the Tars this season. He is an excellent outside runner who has shown great feet and elusiveness in the open field.

Also a fine receiver out of the backfield, Shy could be a great fit for the Laker offense. The nice thing about him though, is that if there is a glut of skill position talent, he has the skills to project as a cornerback as well.

What are GV's chances? Having Thomas here helps and because of his size, some of those Big Ten programs might offer him the preferred walk-on route rather than a scholarship.
