Laker Recruiting Notebook

As the season winds down, more and more recruits are narrowing down their decisions, here is the latest scuttlebutt on who the Lakers may be after and who is interested in return.

Lake Orion QB Chris Lum had interest from Michigan State, Northwestern and a host of MAC schools, but a broken elbow earlier this season caused some of them to back off. It could be GVSU's gain as Lum has reported interest in the Lakers and also returned to play the final two games of the season. The 6'1, 175-lber is efficient (25TDs to 3INTs last season) and reminds us a great deal of Brad Iciek.

What if Lum heads to the MAC or Big Ten? Will the Lakers bring a quarterback in? Well, Bryan Greisen from Hudsonville is still interested, as is Troy's Branko Hamilton. But also watch out for Farmington Hills Harrison's Craig Sacha. Thought to be a D1 recruit, he has yet to garner an offer and is looking the Lakers' way.

Royal Oak RB Raylen Davis had some GVSU coaches drop in on him last week. The 6'0, 200-lb Davis has an offer from Air Force and interest from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and other MAC schools, but he told GVReport this past week that the Lakers are still very much in it. As a senior, Davis rushed for 1049 yards.

Here's an interesting name to remember: Taylor Gray. North Farmington's quarterback, Gray is a great athlete who may be looked at as a safety or wide receiver, but could help in a variety of roles here.

Oak Park CB Johnathan Bryant was one of the state's more underrated players last season. Finishing with nine interceptions, the 5'10, 175-lb Bryant has had interest from Iowa, Cincinnati and Boston College among others. GVSU is also recruiting Bryant and since no D1 schools have offered yet, he is still a possibility.

GVReport will have more on these recruits and others, including interviews and video right up until Signing Day.
