CWU Wrap-Up, Recruits at the Game and More

GVSU pulled off an impressive 41-21 victory over Central Washington. The Laker defense lead the way with six sacks and numerous hurries. GVReport recaps the game and tells you which High School Dream Teamer was at the game!

*With Preston Garris still coming back from injury, GVSU again turned to Blake Smolen to lead the running game and again, he came through, rushing for 200 yards on 20 carries. Jimmy Berezik had some nice runs, but put the ball on the ground for the second straight game, so it was no surprise to see Smolen get more carries down the stretch. Garris, should be close to 100% this week, giving the Lakers a full arsenal.

*We metioned before the game that CWU's offensive line was their weak point and that was made obvious by the GVSU defense on Saturday. Reilly was hurried, battered and sacked six times. Redshirt freshman Danny Richard had 2.5 sacks. The defensive line and the entire team in general simply looked faster than the Wildcats.

*The secondary benefitted from the pressure, but that unit played well. CB Corey Edwards grabbed his sixth interception of the year. Although he is the nickel back, he leads the team in that department.

*Grand Valley will now TRAVEL to Northwest Missouri State (more on that tomorrow) in a rematch of the last two national title games.

*Lubbers Stadium was cold and blustery, but that didn't stop three big time recruits from making it through the game. One Detroit Free Press Dream Teamer and a 1st team All-State selection were there...
