Jarrod Cox, a 6'3, 190-lb safety from Port Clinton, OH has committed to Grand Valley State.
Cox was a standout in football, basketball and track for the Redskins. As a senior, he had 106 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He also was a standout running back, but he likely won't see time on offense as a Laker.
"I'm going to be playing free safety," he told us.
He is the Lakers' 11th verbal commitment and the first from Ohio. Even though Port Clinton is a few hours away from Allendale, Cox knew this was the place for him.
"They made me a great offer," he reported, "they have nice facilities there and you know, they're 97-6 over the last 103 games. They've won national championships and they have a winning tradition. Plus, they have the best D2 stadium I've ever seen."
Cox was being recruited, by Ashland, Hillsdale and a number of MAC schools including Toledo. The three sport star says it will just be football for him at GVSU and to not let his high tackle count fool you.
"I consider myself a cover guy, but I can come up and stop the run too."
