Dakota's Martin Set to be a Laker

Macomb Dakota has been one of the state of Michigan's best programs recently. The Cougars also have provided colleges with some top flight recruits of late. Last season, GVSU dipped into their talent pool and pulled RB/WR Greg Gay. Now another Dakota product is headed to Allendale.

Charles Martin II spoke to GVReport tonight and informed us that his son, Charles Martin III has committed to Grand Valley State.

The younger Martin is a 6'2, 245-lb defensive lineman from Macomb Dakota. As a senior, he had 80 tackles (14 for loss), seven sacks, two batted passes and a fumble recovery.

"Yes he did commit, he decided on Sunday," his father reported, "We made another visit down there, my wife had some concerns because she had never been there so we went down there again and Charles had a chance to talk to the coaches again."

Another big reason for his commitment was the style of defense employed by the Lakers. Martin is a bit of an inside-outside tweener, but his strengths are a good match for the Laker system.

"Well, for Charles, he liked the team and their playing style cause he's the type of lineman they use. There is a lot of movement up front, that's what they do. He also liked the team a lot, we talked to a few team memebers along with coaches. He's playing inside and probably redshirt his first year."

With Signing Day just around the corner, the entire family can now relax as they know their destination and Laker fans can ready themselves for a second "Chuck Martin" in Allendale.

"It feels great, we're very excited to be honest Grand Valley was top on his list and he was serious about going there."
