Signing Day Presser - Part Two

Head Coach Chuck Martin addressed the media today and went through each recruit and talked about their strengths, areas for improvement and how they could contribute to the Laker team.

Israel Woolfork - WR - Livonia Franklin: Needs to put weight on but can run and catch. Makes plays on the football (and "we're not afraid to throw an alley-oop"). Will be a "big physical WR someday."

Mike Cuddeback - DB - Sterling Heights Stevenson: (Walk-on)Likes to hit, will help on special teams and as a safety.

Sam Burchyett - WR - Saline: Bigger kid, phenomonal hands, great kid. Very competitive kid who can catch the ball. Outstanding hands. Kid who will work hard in the weight room. Similar to Antoine Trent when Trent first came in.

John Orlando - WR - Utica Eisenhower:Undersized but makes plays. Not a guy with big press clippings but we've had guys like him before where all of a sudden, after a season he's starting for national championship team.

Zach Dreffs - CB/WR - Elk Rapids: (walk-on)Tremendous playmaker - competitive, good in space.

Ricky Shorkey - LB - Clinton Township Chippewa Valley: Very happy we got him. Not sure what people were missing on him. He got after the QB, played on the edge, played LB, played QB/RB/H-back. Would be a great offensive player, but it is hard to find guys who are nasty and get after people -- great feel for the game, plays with passion.

Charles Martin - DT - Macomb Dakota: great instincts - good techinique, great nose for the football and played good competition in HS.

Andrew Biedenbender - OT - Mt. Pleasant: A diamond in the rough. He can get out and block cornerbacks at 6'4, 275, moves around well. Committed early and Signing Day seemed like a long way away with him - ability to stay on his feet is impressive.

Matt Armstrong - OL - Lansing Sexton: Unbelievable athlete. Hate to make comparisions but size/strength/athleticism is similar to Brandon Barnes. If he comes close to being as good as Brandon, we'll be very excited.

John Kaminski - OT - Joliet Catholic Academy (IL): Comes from one of the best programs in Illinois. Very athletic, physical and strong. Likes to pull which fits the system.

Mac Parker - C - Muskegon: Dad coached him. Tremendous technician, gives great effort. He's undersized, but we love him. People were surprised we were as excited about him as we were because people were recruiting some other linemen from Muskegon. He needs to get bigger but I'd be very surprised if he weren't a good player/starter here someday.

Dominic Cundari - OL - Traverse City West:Effort is awesome, great hustle/tenacity. Needs to continue to develop strength. Plays and plays and plays until the whistle. When a lot of O-linemen were standing around, he was downfield.
