Lakers Pull Impressive JUCO Class

Grand Valley has had a lot of success with Junior College recruits in recent years. The team has brought in a number of players who have made an impact and this year is no different as the Lakers may have brought in their most impressive group of JUCO transfers ever.

It appears Grand Valley is done with their JUCO class for this year. The team picked up three commitments from JC recruits this week, bringing their total to five.

Saddleback (CA)RB Patrick Gates and Victor Valley (AZ) WR Jahan Jones both officially signed and sent their papers in this week.

They join Citrus College DT Brian Giles, West Los Angeles College DT Keioshe Jones and Joliet CC WR Christian Graham as part of this JUCO class.

Gates has been the most talked about recruit since he first expressed interest in the Lakers. A four star recruit out of high school, Gates originally signed with San Diego State but did not qualify. He went to Saddleback and committed to Colorado but academics has forced him to look to the D2 level and Grand Valley.

The 5'11, 195-lb Gates will play running back and wide receiver and may even get looks as a return man and defensive back. Out of high school, he ran a 4.41 at the NIKE camp, the third best mark at the camp.

Jahan Jones is a 6'1, 185-lb wide receiver. He signed with Alabama State originally after spending time with Victor Valley but has signed with the Lakers.

Jones is a deep threat with 4.4 speed. At Victor Valley he caught 38 passes for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns.
