Future Lakers Compete in All-Star Game

The MHSFCA held their annual All-Star Game on Saturday. The Lakers were well represented as four future GV players particpated and one made a key play late in the contest.

The East avenged last year's lost to the West with a 9-0 victory in the game. Grand Valley had four players participating: Saline WR Sam Burchyett, Lansing Sexton OL Matt Armstrong, Chippewa Valley LB Ricky Shorkey and L'Anse Creuse North DB/RB Erik Thompson.

Thompson, who could play offense as well in college, played defensive back on Saturday and made a key play. Late in the third quarter, the West were heading in for a scoring drive when Thompson intercepted a pass from Indiana-bound QB Adam Follett to thwart the drive.

Shorkey, a future GV linebacker, played fullback and finished with 11 yards on three carries. Burchyett caught two passes for 19 yards.
