Jonker Fits the System

One of the top players in West Michigan is Hudsonville running back Jordan Jonker. Naturally, with him in their backyard, the Grand Valley State Lakers have been recruiting the local standout. Recently, Jonker made the short trip to Allendale for a game and had an opportunity to speak with the GVSU coaching staff.

Hudsonville running back Jordan Jonker is on one of the top teams in the state this year. Even though the Eagles recently dropped a closely contested game against Rockford, the Eagles are still one of the contenders in the OK-Red this year.

Jonker recently took the time out of his schedule to head over to Lubbers Stadium, where he watched another team with winning ways, the GVSU Lakers in their home opener against Indianapolis.

"Grand valley went pretty well," he reported, "I like the campus, the coaches, and having a good football team doesn't hurt either."

The 5'9, 192-lb Jonker also had a chance to see the Laker Turf Building and like many seeing the new facility for the first time, was impressed by it.

"It was a sweet place," he said, "It was one of the coolest things I've seen so far, it was awesome."

Jonker says he is keeping in contact with Michigan State and Toledo among other schools, and says he is in the process of setting up visits with those programs. He has yet to receive an offer from any school, including Grand Valley, but thinks one may be in the cards.

"They're talking about getting me on an official visit and see from there," he explained.

As Jonker watched the Lakers play, he couldn't help but be reminded of the offensive system he comes from. Conversely, Laker fans who have seen Jonker play probably have noticed the similarities he shares with several current GVSU skill players. Jonker had a chance to speak to the Laker coaching staff about just that.

"Yeah, they definitely talked about using me as slot and running back and how that would fit well with me and we do a lot of that over at Hudsonville."
