Rauch Familiar With GVSU Football

Portage Central had a fine season this year, going 8-2. Their key player was senior captain Gerritt Rauch, who has become famous for his big hits on the gridiron and the baseball diamond. A two sport star, Rauch brings intensity to any team, what are the chances he brings that to GVSU?

There are several decisions yet to be made for Gerritt Rauch. For one, he has to decide where he wants to go to college. Part of that decision is the decision on which sport to play. Rauch was an All-State selection in football this year and is a fine shortstop who already has an offer from Oakland for baseball.

"I don't think I'm going to [play both sports]," Rauch explained, "I'm still trying to decide."

The 6'0, 185-lb Rauch played quarterback and safety this past year. He rushed for 891 yards and 14 touchdowns and had 41 tackles and two pass breakups on defense. He says most schools recruiting him for football, are recruiting him as a safety.

"I've talked to Saginaw Valley State and Michigan Tech," he said, "They still have to watch a couple more game films."

GVSU has shown interest in Rauch for both football and baseball. Rauch is certainly familiar with the school as his older brother is a Laker alum and although he did not play any sports at GV, that didn't stop the Rauch's from checking out the football team anyway.

"We have had season tickets to GVSU for the last five years," he explained, "I'm very interested in them. They said I need to send them one more game film and guess they're going to go from there."

Rauch, who hit .438 and had 44 RBIs last year also reports interest from Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue for baseball.
