Another Holiday Break Commitment for GVSU

Dearborn High School running back/wide receiver/corner back Michael Hatcher verbally committed to the Lakers today, making it an eventful break between Christmas and New Years for Grand Valley State. The shifty player was an all-state selection in multiple publications, and he is now welcomed to Allendale with open arms.

Michael Hatcher, Dearborn High School's Mr. Do-it-all this season, recently made his intentions for college football clear, as he informed the coaches that he will be joining the Laker family this fall.

Hatcher put up some gaudy numbers this season, rushing for over 1100 yards and putting up another 400 yards receiving. In one game this season, a first-round playoff matchup against Walled Lake Western, Hatcher went off, running for 285 yards and scoring seven touchdowns, six rushing and one receiving, en route to a 49-26 victory for his Dearborn squad.

His season-long efforts earned him a spot at the running back position on the Division 2 Detroit Free Press All-State Team, and also a spot on the Division 1-2 Associated Press All-State Team at defensive back, where he picked off five passes on the year.

Initial looks have him playing either wide receiver or defensive back for the Lakers, as he performed well enough for the coaches during a recent testing session on campus to earn him consideration as a multi-position athlete.

One of his top defensive performances this season came against Detroit Country Day where he hung step-for-step with Michigan State commitment Bennie Fowler.

GVReport will have more on Hatcher and the rest of the Laker commitments in the coming weeks leading up to National Signing Day.
