Grand Valley State Signs Extension With Clear

Laker Football And Men's Basketball Will Air On WMUS-106.9 FM

Allendale, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University athletics and Clear Channel Radio announced today that both parties have mutually agreed on a five-year extension of the current contract. The continued partnership gives Clear Channel of West Michigan GVSU football and men's basketball broadcasting rights through 2014. WMUS 106.9 FM will be the flagship radio station for Laker football and men's basketball. In addition, the extension also includes the broadcasting rights to both the "Chuck Martin Weekly Radio Show" and the "Ric Wesley Weekly Radio Show" that will air weekly during their respective seasons on WTKG-AM 1230.

"We are excited about Clear Channel's long term commitment to Grand Valley State Athletics," said Grand Valley State Director of Athletics Tim Selgo. "This partnership allows us the ability for growth in the market place."

Grand Valley State University also announced the development of the GVSU Football Radio Network. The radio network will be part of the Grand Valley Sports Network.

"Having a committed flagship station and strong leadership at Grand Valley State that understands the importance of growing our championship brand is a real statement to our fans," said Grand Valley State's Associate Director of Athletics for Marketing Doug Lipinski. "The radio network allows us to integrate all of our marketing, branding and broadcasting goals."

The GVSU Football Radio Network will be cover six of the top 90 national media markets according to the Nielson ratings and will reach 60 of Michigan's 83 counties. The network will also reach northern Indiana, northeast Ohio, Windsor, Canada and the Chicago land area. Anchoring the affiliate lineup is WDFN-AM 1130 Detroit, which also serves as the Detroit Piston's flagship station for the Piston radio network. The Grand Valley State football radio network will have coverage of almost 15 million people on eight stations. Over 51,000 of Grand Valley State's current 67,000 alumni reside in Michigan.

WMUS 106.9 FM will also air two new segments during the Grand Valley State football and basketball seasons. Monday Morning Quarterback will take place every Monday during the football season on the WMUS morning show with head coach Chuck Martin. The GVSU Coaches' Corner segment will air every Friday morning starting with football season and ending with basketball season. Head football coach Chuck Martin, head men's basketball coach Ric Wesley and head women's coach Janel Burgess will all participate in the Coaches' Corner. WOOD-FM is an official media partner of the GVSU Kids Club.
