Lakers Land Three Verbals

GVSU landed three verbal commitments this week. Portage Northern twins Antonio Hutchins and Ben Hutchins along with Lapeer East's two-way lineman Payton McCallum became the first verbals for 2010.

Ben, a speedy 5'7, 170-lb running back and cornerback, had 38 receptions for 678 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior. He also carried the ball 207 times for 1,470 yards and 19 touchdowns in that season. He could play running back, slot receiver, defensive back or some combination or the Lakers.

5'10, 190-lb Antonio is just as versatile, having played running back, defensive back and wide receiver. He caught 23 passes for 481 yards and seven touchdowns along with 1,010 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns as a senior. He also could project to several positions for the Lakers.

McCallum (6'3, 255-lbs) played both defensive tackle and guard for Lapeer East. He was an honorable mention All-State selection as a senior and also plays varsity basketball. He could play either side of the ball for GVSU.
