Baseball: Hawaii wins final home game

The Rainbows pick up win number 28 as they whip Louisiana Tech in final home game of the season

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (28-24, 9-18 WAC) defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (17-32-1, 9-18 WAC) 11-1 in front of a crowd of 2,568 on senior day at the Les Murakami Stadium. Keahi Rawlins (5-4) got the win for UH, going 6.0 innings, giving up just one run and six hits. Mitch Tucker (4-5) took the loss for the Bulldogs. Matthew Inouye led the way, goin 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Brent Cook had a great senior day, going 2-for-2 with four runs scored, one RBI and two walks. Jaziel Mendoza added a 2-for-3 day with one RBI and one run, while Brian Finegan and Andrew Sansaver both went 2-for-5. Five other seniors played in the game as Arthur Guillen went 1-for-1 with a ground-rule double and a run, Kevin Gilbride went 1-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI, Brian Bock went 1-for-3 with one RBI, and Justin Cayetano and Bryan Lee both pitched one scoreless inning each. The Rainbows jumped out to an early lead as Mendoza drove in Sansaver before Cook score to make the score 2-0 after the first inning. UH would add two more runs in the second as Gilbride doubled in Joshua Green and Sansaver drove in Gilbride, putting the score to 4-0. Isaac Omura, who ended his 10-game hitting streak, would sacrifice in a run in the third inning before Louisiana Tech would get their only run in the fourth, making it 5-1. After Bock drove in Cook in the fifth inning, Hawai`i would break the game open with a four-run sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run by Inouye, extending the UH lead to 10-1. The Rainbows would add one more run in the seventh as Finegan would drive in Guillen, making the final score 11-1. The Rainbows will now take a week off before heading on the road for their last four games of the season. Their next game will be at UC-Irvine on Wednesday, May 21.
