Usher in No Rush

Gardena (Calif.) Serra defensive end and outside linebacker Nick Usher wasn't too surprised that the Cavaliers managed a 58-6 victory over Santa Monica (Calif.) on Friday in the second round of playoffs.

"We have been working hard out here every day, busting our butts in the weight room. Practices are even harder than games," he said.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect has seen an improvement on his game since week one in one area in particular.

"I've been improving my run a lot. Getting to the quarterback is what I do; I can get there much faster than most guys," he said.

Usher holds an offer from Oregon State and has been impressed with the way the Beavers have performed over the past few months.

"I'm very impressed with them; they have been terrific this season," he said.

Usher was recruited by the Beavers at linebacker and has also been talking with a few other programs, including Hawaii, Idaho, Houston, and San Jose State.

He has plans in the works to visit two of those programs.

"I think I'm going to take an official visit to Oregon State in January. I'm also planning on going to visit Hawaii in January with one of my friends. I'm not sure about other visits yet," he said.

Usher will likely announce his decision in February for National Signing Day.
